This weekend I went to the 9th Annual Jefferson Texas Quilt Show called Quilts on the Bayou.
I was pleasantly surprised at how many wonderful quilts were on display. As an avid quilter I was in heaven when I looked at all the creativity put into these lovely quilts which were really works of art.
I asked for a few demonstrations of some of the new tools that have been designed specifically for cutting and piecing. There were so many it’s hard to decide which ones I may want for future projects. One of my favorites was a needle threader because these old eyes just don’t see the tiny hole in a straw needle any more.
While walking around visiting with the vendors I met today I was really in awe at how some things have changed and how some are the same great techniques I know well and love to do. It also really made me want to get my supplies out and play with the fabric and thread.
We have been moving so much over the past 8 years that I had packed away my beloved supplies and have not been able to pull any of it out to work on. We’ve been busy here too so I’ll need to wait just a bit longer before I have a place to be creative again. It won’t be long now. The last place I remember really quilting we were living at an RV park in Needles California. There was a large game room that I could use any time I wanted, there I spread out and quilted the afternoon’s away while Dave was drilling away at work.
Perhaps next year I’ll even have something ready for the show. Join me at the Jefferson Texas Quilt Show “Quilts on the Bayou” January 25-27, 2013.
Oh, I don’t know if you’re aware of it but our Bed and Breakfast here in Jefferson has handmade quilts on all of our beds.
These are works of art! Beautiful!
